Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Get to the fifth installment of a film series, especially a sci-fi action one with a reputation for mindless bloat, and you can generally assume you’ll be looking at the franchise’s most dreadful offering yet. But — surprise — the fifth “Transformers” movie, “The Last Knight,” is far from the worst in this continuing experiment in noisy nonsense based on Hasbro toys. That is thanks largely to two words: Anthony Hopkins.

Transformers’ goes for its biggest change: ‘The Last Knight’ story
Director Michael Bay’s pyrotechnic-filled Transformers have raked in plenty as Paramount Pictures’ mega-franchise. The battling robot stars (evil Decepticons vs. noble Autobots) who transform into everyday objects (mainly cool cars) have pulled in $1.3 billion ($3.8 billion worldwide) in four previous films spawned by the Hasbro toys and the beloved 1980s animated TV series.
